• Synthesis of medicinal compounds in crop plants: Unravelling the eco-physiological mechanisms underlying the production of terpenoids in Artemisia species (Theme 1.1.12).
• Analysis of production and quality of propagation material of generatively and vegetatively propagated crops (Theme 1.1.3).
• Economic and agronomic analysis of seed potato supply chains in Ethiopia (Theme 5.4.1).
• Using agronomic and logistics tools to improve the  synchronisation, uniformity and quality of pineapple in Benin produced for local and international markets (Theme 5.4.2).
  

Possibilities for MSc thesis

• Production of artemisinin, a secondary metabolite with antimalarial activity, in Artemisia annua L.

• Improvement of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seed quality in Kenya by crop and seed management techniques: Physiological aspects

Other responsibilities

• Coordinating research in the field of product quality within production chains. Emphasis is on the crop physiological backgrounds and mechanisms of the development of 'quality' within crops, especially with regard to plant constituents and seed crops.
• Co-ordinating Editor of the Journal Potato Research.
